"This guy knows and loves fishing. Had a great time, catching many different species in the 10,000 Islands. Off the top of my head I remember catching, snook, reddish, mangrove snapper, Bonita, mackerel, and a pretty small Goliath grouper, along others. I'll definitely be contacting Dave again. Maybe next time I'll be able to bring in a full grown Goliath and/or a shark! If you find yourself in Southwest Florida looking for a charter, book with Playin' Hooky." - Michael
Bull Sharks are the bruisers of the inshore world. These stocky powerhouses can grow up to 8 feet long and pack a punch that'll test your arms and your gear. They're known for their aggressive nature and their ability to swim in both saltwater and freshwater, which means they can show up just about anywhere along the coast. Bull Sharks are most active in the warmer months, so summer trips often yield the best results. When you hook into one of these bad boys, be prepared for a serious workout – they don't give up easily, and that's what makes landing one such a rush.
Blacktip Sharks are the acrobats of the shark world. These sleek predators are known for their incredible leaps out of the water, often spinning as they go. They're a bit smaller than Bull Sharks, typically maxing out around 6 feet, but what they lack in size they make up for in speed and agility. Blacktips are a blast to catch because of their energetic fights and aerial displays. They're pretty common in the Naples area year-round, but spring and fall often see them in larger numbers as they follow bait fish migrations. When you're reeling one in, keep your eyes peeled for that signature black-tipped fin cutting through the water – it's a sight that'll get your heart racing every time.

Blacktip Sharks are the acrobats of our shark species, known for their impressive leaps out of the water. They typically run 4-5 feet long, though some can reach up to 9 feet. You'll find them patrolling near artificial reefs and in coastal waters up to about 100 feet deep. These sharks are pretty active year-round in our warm Florida waters, but spring and fall migrations can offer some hot action. Anglers get a kick out of Blacktips for their quick runs and aerial displays when hooked. They're also good eating if you're into shark meat. To up your chances, try chumming with oily fish like mackerel or herring to get them excited. Here's a pro tip: use circle hooks with a wire leader. Blacktips have a habit of rolling when they take the bait, and this setup helps prevent cut-offs. Keep your drag set light at first – these sharks like to make fast initial runs.

Bull Sharks are the bruisers of our local waters, typically 8-12 feet long and weighing 200-300 pounds. These tough customers are known for their stocky build and aggressive nature. You'll find them cruising the shallows, often in brackish areas where rivers meet the sea. They're not picky eaters, which makes them easier to target year-round, but summer's your best bet. Anglers love Bull Sharks for their powerful fights and the sheer thrill of landing such a formidable predator. Here's a local trick: use fresh eel as bait. Its high oil content and tough skin make it irresistible to Bulls and hard for smaller fish to steal. When you're out there, keep an eye on depth changes and structure – Bulls often hang around drop-offs waiting to ambush prey. Remember, these sharks can tolerate freshwater, so don't be surprised if you hook one further upriver than you'd expect.
